Caught the Theme Park Bug

At least I (Krista) did. As you can tell from the photos, I was possibly more excited than Alex about standing next to Sir Topham Hatt, riding on Thomas the Tank Engine, and riding on a large mechanical swing. She definitely loved the roller coaster more than me though. She's talking about it hourly.

Before I had kids, this is one of the things I was excited about. Being a little kid again. Being SO excited to go on a roller coaster that you thought you were going to burst. Believing that large, costumed character was REALLY HIM. And Matthew and I were that excited because as far as Alex was concerned, we were on the Island of Sodor.

We had an incredible time at Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo on Sunday - for you parents of 2-5 age kids its amazing how much they have that kids can do. The rides are made so that you go on with them if they are under x inches tall - its fantastic.

Fireworks Spectacular

4th of July on a Wednesday was definitely a new thing for me. I realize that sounds silly, because surely in the last 30 years, this has occurred at least 3 or 4 times before. However, its the first time I remember having a Wednesday off work. Initially, Krista was a little bit concerned that everyone else had "plans" and we didn't. However, she got over that by making us some plans... which were wonderful! We made a morning trek to Tennessee Valley and did the short 2 mile hike to the beach with the girls. Alex loved fetching water from the surf, and Reese continued her long and seemingly never ending quest to find the best tasting sand in the bay area.

Following the successful afternoon adventure, we braved the evening keeping Alex up for the 4th of July fireworks. Although this was against our better judgment, what were we to do? She had been talking about them for 2 weeks, so it didn't seem fair to deprive her of the experience. Daddy and Alex ventured out in the jogging stroller at 9:30, and enjoyed an awesome display over the bay. Nearing the finale, Alex turned to Daddy and said "Daddy, I'm sleeping now" to which Daddy replied, "do you want to go home then?" "No, after the fireworks are over please."

It was a great time, and one of the more memorable father-daughter moments thus far.

First day of School

Today was Alexandra's first day of "summer school", a series of 8 or 9 classes for the kiddos to get comfortable with their surroundings before they start the hard studies in the fall.

I found this poem, and wonder if its close to what is going through her little 2 year old mind...

The First Day of School

I wonder if my drawing will be as good as theirs
I wonder if they'll like me, or just be full of stares
I wonder if my teacher will look like mom or gram
And I wonder if my puppy will wonder where I am.
