Take your Alex to Google day

This past Thursday, April 24, 2008 was "Take your daughter and son to work day", so Alex and I ventured to the Googleplex. In true Google fashion, they planned quite a shindig, including shirts and all. I made the mistake of telling Alex about the event over a week in advance, which meant leading up to the big day, every morning she said, "Daddy, are we going to work today?"

When the big day arrive, Alex got all decked out in her Google gear, messenger bag and all.



We headed to the bus stop and awaited the shuttle.



When we got to Google after the long bus ride (about 5 minutes in, Alex in a loud voice asked "is this going to take a long time?" in a very loud voice, causing everyone on the fairly quite bus to crack up!), we toured around campus, checked out the meeting rooms, and met the TRex!



It was an awesome day, filled with bouncy houses, bubbles, lots of food, and even some frisbee on the lawn. Alex had a blast, and can't understand why I wouldn't be super excited to go to work every day. Good question, perspective is everything.

An Interview with a 3 year old

Alexandra, Reese and I (Matthew) were playing with our new Flip camera from Google/YouTube. Its a simple little camera that makes it very easy to take and upload video to YouTube (or other services). We decided to do a formal press interview with Alex... here are the results:

Put on your dancin' shoes

Alex and best friend Sadie have officially launched their dance career. They now attend the "Tutu School" (aptly named, given you are required to wear one) and had their first ballet lesson.

El Primer Día de Escuela

Reese started at Hola Kids! “Hassa mañana!” she called out when we left the first day. A natural. Just hope she can roll her r’s better than her mom. Alex is jealous so she’s trying more Spanish now too. Whatever it takes, baby.

The Chariot

My favorite new garage-space-taking-up contraption. And so well named! Queen Alex and Princess Reese crawl into the Chariot, put on their “crowns,” and gleefully accept some food-bribe to sit there and be happy. Either Matthew or I pull them with our bikes – instantly doubling the time it takes to get anywhere. This weekend they sat, bundled from the cold, for a whole hour and a half while we rode to Tiburon. At the end was a reward for all of us…. a 45 minute ferry ride back to SF (which avoids the ridiculous hills in that direction)! The Chariot really is marvelous – I’d recommend it. I wonder if they make one with a DVD player installed in it?

Downhill

I will forever remember this Easter as the first time Alex got on a chairlift and SKIIED! Course she was with us and not usually supporting her own weight, but the chairlift made it seem real. Alex was very focused. “No, daddy, I’m not going to do a wedge. That will make me slow down.” Apparently skiing to her is all about speed. So much for cross-country. Someone get that kid a helmet!
